Show a little skin

"Sometimes you have to show a little skin. This reminds boys of being naked, and then they think of sex." - Cher Horowitz

Cher is always filled with such wisdom and as I looked at many of the Spring 2013 collections I noticed we have to show a little bit of skin this season...maybe in a more modest way such as the sport infused looks Alexander wang showed at his Spring 2013 collection.

The cutouts and plastic inserts show a bit of skin without looking like a street walker...not that I have a problem with that because short, tight, and shiny will forever be my first love..but that look isn't practical for class but when going out it's great look which is why i loved Je'ane's look it's minimal and sexy but not too sexy.

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as simple, comfortable and chic.

The body suit is classic staple it's a tank top but i don't have to worry about tucking in my shirt and worrying about lines it'll cause and Bishme is a good friend of mine I love to support his work.
What is one fashion item you can't live without?
White t-shirts!!! you can dress them up and dress them down.

Dressy Denim.

As I've said before denim is the basis of most college students wardrobes. We wear denim on top of denim, Literally, and we even dress it up. The denim as a high fashion piece really in my mind began with that Infamous Anna Wintour cover of Vogue from November 1990. It resurged with Balmainia in spring 2009 and now we all live and breathe this American classic all over.

Miu Miu Pre-Fall 2010

I was born in the 90's so why is it trending...grunge, knee highs, minimalism; all major hallmarks of the 90's.  It's been creeping into fashion for a few years I noticed it in Charlotte Ronson's ballet inflected show in 2010 and the very Cher Horwitz plaid look in Miu Miu's Pre-fall 2010 collection. I'm never one to complain when Clueless is involved.

Yes, I know the 90's were more than clueless but I was 4 when this movie came out I really thought high school girls dressed like that...and in a way my cousins supported this idea with their very own fashion sense.

Photobucket Do you see any styles that you wear today? I see many of these looks re-hashed in different proportions like dark florals, layers all in the same length, and crop tops!

but as I said my ultimate 90's reference is Clueless
Photobucket
Clueless is full of tiny skirts and plaid and knee highs ( checkout Amber in the back in all that pattern)

so when I saw Sandy wearing what a modern day Cher would wear I freaked. The tiny dress  with the long jacket ,the knee highs ,and the feminine flourishes!!!!

What are you wearing and where did you purchase it?
I'm wearing a Calvin Klein Blazer, H&M dress, A belt that was a gift, Thigh highs from hot topic, Michael Kors tiny crossbody bag, Juicy Couture necklace, American Eagle Aviators, and Ego and Greed wedges.
Why did you purchase these items?
I purchased most of them because I liked them they described who I am.
How would you describe your style?
LAYERED!!!!!!! I'm  Girly ,eclectic, grunge, time traveler .I love pulling ideas from the past.
what is one fashion item you can't live without?
My Blazers if i can't layer I can't leave the house.

Dries Van Noten Spring 2013

One of the many reasons I love Dries Van Noten are the layers, and they playful prints, and interesting way Dries layers textures. These two pictures to the left and right depict my favorite shape that he does the longer layers and oversized proportions on top. The spring 2013 collection was heavily influenced by grunge but the Fall 2010 collection was opulent but this look stood out to me because it was a glam .gothic ,grunge. I spotted Eleeshabah in mount vernon doing a slightly more wearable version of the Dries Look.  Her look was more minimalistic but it still packed a punch.

What are you wearing and where did you buy it?
I'm wearing a skirt that I purchased at Target and an  trapeze shaped  H&M t-shirt, with a bright fabric clutch by a local Baltimore artist.
Why did you purchase these items?
I purchased my skirt and shirt because they screamed comfy and cozy but still stylish.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as a plain jane who secretly wants to have fun. I tend to dress in plain shapes and solid colors..I like for my accessories to do the talking.
What is one item you can't live without?
Accessories!!!!!! Specifically my earrings and a nice bag. I would feel incomplete without those two things.

John Galliano Fall 2012
Capes have been a mainstay in fashion for all of my short life, from Oscar De la Renta for Dior in the 90's to John Galliano for Dior in Fall 2011. Capes are becoming more mainstream in fashion with Alexander Wang dotting his Fall 2011 show with downtown cool girl capes I saw a surge of them permeate the fast fashion market. But just this week I've noticed that J.Crew and Banana Republic both have capes for everyday life one to keep you warm and one to keep you dry.

Alexander Wang Fall 2011

So of course you all know my beloved Jada has been on a quest for capes since Alexander Wang's fall 2011 show. She  has made the difficult task  of making a dramatic cape into a casual layering piece easy.

What are you wearing and where did you buy it?
Tank top from H&M, Aldo Scarf, H&M Riding Pants, 90's era Nine West Riding Boots, Houndstooth cape from Lane Bryant, Burberry Watch, Antique Jade and gold ring from my grandmother, and a Louis Vuitton Deauville bag.
How would you describe your style?
My style is Eclectic Classicism: I stick to neutrals and basics and a exuberant piece or two or five!!!!!!!
Why did you buy your watch?
I purchased my watch because I wanted a one and I figured that if I'm going to buy a piece that I will wear everyday, then it sure as hell better look good and last a very long time. Plus, everybody had Michael Kors watches, so it was between Burberry and D&G, D&G is totally next!!!!
What is one Fashion item you can't live without?
I cannot live without my Burberry watch! She's my baby and she is a piece that I bought on my Own from money that I earned.

     Distressed Denim

As a college student myself I can say that  denim is the foundation to many a college kid’s wardrobe.  You see denim in many incarnations on campus from printed, colored,  waxed, and distressed.  Distressed denim is making a major comeback but now instead of the overpriced Abercrombie and Fitch versions I owned in my youth the distressing is becoming more individual. Everyone is one of a kind and they all want to look distinct. I spotted Nick on campus and his take on distressed denim was inspired because he was working a shape that isn't popular in men's fashion, His distressed vest was cropped and boxy.

What are you wearing and where did you purchase it?
I'm wearing a screen printed thermal  and Khaki skinny jeans from H&M, a old fedora and, thrifted Levi's jacket that I cut the sleeves off and cut in half. I then tie-dyed it with bleach.
Why did you buy these pieces?
Well, I purchased the vest because I wanted to tie-dye and cut and distress it.
How would you describe your style?
it's a mash up I really do like cut up jeans and hats.
What is one fashion item you can't live without? A Hat, I love hats, I don't wear them everyday but I wear them often.

OVERitALL

Overalls are cool again.

Phillip Lim spring 2013 (left) and Chloe Fall 2009 (Right)

As I sit on campus the warm weather allows for people to continue wearing their favorite summer looks. Many of the girls are wearing rompers, onsies, and loose harem pant jumpsuits. The one trend that stood out me was the return of the classic denim overall. This trend has popped up on runways over the years , I first noticed it the classic overall on Chloe’s Fall 2009 runway crafted in a sumptuous black velvet with gold beaded embroidery on the shoulders and in a loose boyish cut. The French fashion house then showed a snug black leather pair in their Fall 2011 collection. The overall trend is apparently going to be big Spring 2013 if New York designers have anything to say about it.  Various takes on overalls were shown at shows such as Ruffian, BCBG, Thom Browne, Rebecca Minkoff, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. I spotted Alexis Beverly wearing the look in such an innocent, casual way.

What are you wearing and where did you buy it?
I'm wearing a silk sheer overlay top I purchased at H&M, Blue Denim overall Shorts from the thrift store and a pair of Converse.
Why did you purchase the items?
The shirt and the shoes are just good basics. The overalls reminded me of my childhood and I thought they were a unique choice I haven't seen anyone wearing overalls on campus.
How would you describe your style?
It depends on my mood...today it's comfy and casual.

#OOTD (Outfit of the Day) 9/19/2012:Eura and I

So, FINALLY, Eura and I took a moment to randomly capture our ensembles this past Wednesday. It was a spontaneous photo op that ended up delivering really nice photos. I didn't have my camera that day so I took all of our photos using an iPhone and it wasn't until I did, that I realized how amazing the camera is.

Moving on, here are our OOTD photos!

IG Filtered, but still super awesome. Love the way the sun is gleaming

Finally a photo of Eura! It's been ages! Check out the pop of Neon

YES! I actually do wear flats! To school anyway

My Arm Candy

Eura's Arm Candy. J. Crew bracelet and reptile necklace
Nature! Love the background

I LOVE that "Gap" bag!!!!

Pulled hair back to feature studs

Express rider pants! Best part? They are OLIVE!

My ensemble consisted of a vintage oversized blazer, Express rider pants, a black H&M tank and Aldo "Cyphers" flats. I used to work at Aldo, so now I call all of my shoes by name.

Eura's laptop is in surgery, so i'm sure he will update the breakdown of his ensemble once he gets it back. Notice that we're both wearing Olive, purely coincidental.

Random! I'm obsessed with Deadmau5 (pronounced: Deadmouse) right now!

That's about all for now! Until next time loveys!
